Maintaining Your Routine Despite Wrist Discomfort

Dealing with weak or painful wrists can be incredibly discouraging, especially when standard movements like planks or push-ups become unbearable due to joint extension. Whether you are managing occasional tendonitis or general joint sensitivity, discomfort doesn't have to mean skipping your training entirely. Here is an effective, no-equipment routine designed to engage your core, arms, and legs without putting unnecessary pressure on your wrists.

The Training Structure

Perform each of the following movements for 30 seconds, followed by a 30-second rest period. Once you have completed all six exercises, rest for two minutes before beginning the next round. Aim to complete three full rounds.

1. Up-Downs

Begin in a kneeling position with your torso upright and core tight. Step your right foot forward, plant it firmly, and push through your heel to stand up, bringing your left foot to meet it. Reverse the motion by stepping back and returning to your knees. Alternate your leading leg for the full duration.

2. Crab Walks

Start in a deep squat with your feet slightly wider than hip-width. Keep your chest elevated. Take small steps to the right while maintaining your low position for three to four steps, then reverse the direction. Switch sides continuously.

3. Arm Circles and Lateral Steps

Stand with feet together and knees slightly bent, extending your arms out to your sides. As you step out to the right, perform small, controlled circles with your arms initiated from the shoulders. Step back to center and repeat on the left side, maintaining constant arm motion throughout.

4. Triceps Flutters

Hinge forward at your hips with a straight back and soft knees. Extend your arms straight back behind you, palms facing upward. Engage your core and pulse your arms up and down in quick, controlled movements. Focus on squeezing the triceps without locking your elbows.

5. Standing Side-to-Front Crunch

With hands behind your head, lift your right knee out to the side while bringing your right elbow toward it. Return to center, then drive your right knee toward your chest for a forward crunch, bringing both elbows toward the knee. Alternate between sides for the full 30 seconds.

6. Modified Hollow Hold

Lie on your back, pressing your spine into the floor. Lift your legs so your shins are parallel to the ground and let your arms hover above the mat. Lift your head and shoulders, maintaining a steady hold. To increase difficulty, slowly straighten your legs while keeping your lower back anchored to the mat.
